Hospital School Pretoria/Hospitaalskool Pretoria

The Hospital School Pretoria is a bone fide school under the jurisdiction of the Gauteng Department of Education.  The school comprises a primary and secondary school department in which tuition is offered through the medium of English and Afrikaans to all learners in three main units.  These units function on six different campuses:

The Hospital Unit in which tuition is offered to patient learners in the Pretoria Academic Hospital/Steve Biko Hospital, the Tshwane District Hospital and Tshwane Rehabilitation Hospital as well as 1 Military and Pretoria West Hospitals.  All school-going patients receive tuition - especially cancer patients, children who have undergone major heart surgery, or who have been involved in serious motor car or shooting accidents, or who suffer from a serious degree of burns and have to be absent from school for long period of time - and benefit at the school.

The Psychiatric Unit, which is based at the Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.  Learners in Gr 1 – 12 with psychiatric problems, amongst whom are learners who attempted to commit suicide, rape victims and children who have been abused or molested, are taught here. In this unit we focus strongly on therapeutic tuition.

The Tuition Centre for Pregnant Learners has been closed in December 2017,
